Mr Andy James Ballantyne

MBChB, BSc (Hons) in Immunology

Andy Ballantyne

About me

I am the Clinical Director of the National Treatment Centre and Fife Orthopaedics, a role I have held since 2023. Prior to this, I was Clinical Lead for Trauma and Orthopaedics from 2015 to 2023, where I played a key role in the development and successful delivery of the new National Treatment Centre for Orthopaedics in Fife.

I qualified from Edinburgh University in 1994 with an MBChB and a BSc (Hons) in Immunology. I followed this by completing my basic surgical training in South East Scotland, then by Higher Surgical Training in Trauma and Orthopaedics, completed in 2004. At this time, I took a Fellowship in Dunedin, New Zealand, specialising in revision surgery and trauma which I found an enjoyable learning experience.

Since becoming a consultant in NHS Fife in 2005, my clinical focus has been on hip replacement surgery, with particular expertise in revisional hip replacement surgery. I am also very interested in orthopaedic trauma, and I view my clinical work as centred on improving outcomes for patients undergoing complex surgical procedures.
