Healthcare holds baby beside parents

If you are going home

You and your baby will be checked by the midwife and other staff to make sure you are recovering well from the birth. Your baby will have a thorough examination and a hearing test usually before going home.

A Community Midwife will visit you at home for up to 10 days or longer if necessary after which your care will be handed over to the health visitor. The days the midwife visits will be agreed between yourselves and she may ask a maternity care assistant to visit you if appropriate.

After your discharge from hospital and up to day 10 you can call the postnatal ward for urgent advice if you feel you cannot wait for the midwife to visit.
