What do we mean by volunteering?

Volunteering is a choice undertaken of our own free will, a choice to give time or energy to get involved, help out and participate in our communities.

Volunteering contributes to our personal, community and national wellbeing.

Effective volunteering will be:

  • flexible and responsive
  • enabled and supported
  • sociable and connected
  • valued and appreciated
  • meaningful and purposeful
  • recognises diversity

See our Volunteering activities page for a list of volunteer roles within our hospitals.

Commitment

Generally we ask for commitment of 2-3 hours per week for a minimum of 6 months.
