Since the start of 2026, we've noticed a preference for quite traditional baby names like Millie and Theo for example. See the favourites below.

Fife (reflecting national Scottish trends)

In the early 20th century, Scottish naming was very traditional and faith based. The most common names used across Scotland and therefore Fife were:

John
Mary

These two names dominated every decade from 1900 to the 1940s, appearing far more frequently than any others in birth registrations. [nrscotland.gov.uk], [ssa.gov]

1950s

Post‑war Scotland saw a slight broadening of names, but traditional favourites remained strong.

David
Mary / Margaret

David rose sharply in popularity in Scotland during the 1950s and remained dominant for decades. (scotsman.com)

1960s

David
Margaret / Elizabeth

Traditional biblical and royal names continued to dominate birth registrations across Scotland. (scotsman.com)

1970s (start of modern records – 1974)

This is where official NRS baby name tracking begins.
